Notifications

Notifications in Singularity arrive as small pop-ups and are kept in the notification center so you can come back to them.

When an app sends a notification, a pop-up slides in from the top-right corner. It shows an icon, a summary, and a body, along with any actions the app offers. Pop-ups dismiss themselves after a few seconds, or you can close one yourself. If an app updates a notification it already sent, the pop-up updates in place rather than stacking a second one.

A notification is more useful when it looks like what it is about. Singularity picks the most specific image a notification carries rather than always falling back to the app’s logo: if the notification ships its own image, a path or raw image data, that is what you see. So a chat message can show the contact’s avatar and a player can show the album art, and only when there is no such image does it fall back to the sending app’s icon.

Everything that arrives is kept in the notification center, reached from the panel, where the button carries a badge with how many you have not seen yet.

The center groups notifications by app. A single notification shows as one row; when an app has sent several, they collapse into a group with a header that shows the app’s icon, its name, a preview of the latest, and a count. Expand the group to read them all, clear a whole group from its header, or clear everything at once. When there is nothing left, the center simply says so.

Do Not Disturb stops the pop-ups from appearing without losing anything: the notifications still arrive and are kept in the center, they just do not interrupt you. The panel reflects the mode so you know it is on.
